OSCE Academy and IFA joint Project on Bride-Kidnapping completed

On 29 January the release of the “Erkinay” cartoon concluded the joint project of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek and Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (IFA) aimed at changing attitudes towards bride-kidnapping in Kyrgyzstan.

The project started with the round table “Bride-kidnapping. The status quo and public opinion: approaches, practices, challenges, opportunities” on 25 October 2017. The event brought  together representatives of human rights organizations, religious circles and law enforcement agencies, as well as researchers, historians, sociologists, journalists and writers. During the meeting, the experts developed a number of recommendations, including the holding of events among secondary school students and the development of materials for awareness-raising.

As a result the OSCE Academy and the International Debate Education Association (IDEA CA) held a four-day training and debate in British Parliamentary Debate Format "HUMAN RIGHTS CUP 2017" for schoolchildren from 9 till 12 December 2017 (link to the news: http://osce-academy.net/en/dialogue/bridekidnapping/dabatetournament/).

Special information leaflets (http://osce-academy.net/upload/file/Brochure.compressed.pdf) were developed and the story “Erkinay” by writer Altyn Aman with illustration from Tatyana Zelenskaya and translated into Russian and English by Altyn Aman and Svetlana Dzardanova was published electronically and hard copies were distributed among schools and libraries around Kyrgyzstan.The leaflets and books are also available at the OSCE Academy library.
