Lecture on Extremism and Radicalism by Representative of the Ministry of Interior of the Kyrgyz Republic

On 30 March the OSCE Academy’s master students met Mr. Erlan Bakiev, Head of the Department of the Service for Counter Extremism and Illegal Migration of the Ministry of Interior of the Kyrgyz Republic. Mr. Bakiev talked to students about extremism and radicalism and its various forms, listed organizations and groups that are currently banned in Kyrgyzstan and explained how actions through social networks might become punishable acts under the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic. Our guest also touched upon social and civic responsibilities and explained their importance and relevance in today’s society. Students actively participated in the discussion and asked about measures that the government undertakes to promote the education of imams as a means to decrease the level of radical religious views. Other issues that Mr. Bakiev was asked to inform about, referred to secularism in Kyrgyzstan, or the cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and international security organizations, such as Interpol and the Collective Security Treaty Organizations (CSTO).
