MA Students 2017-2018 Received Their Degrees

On 14 December 47 students of the MA Programme in Politics and Security and the MA Programme in Economic Governance and Development graduated from the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. The Graduation Ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, members of the Diplomatic Corps, partners and donors as well as parents and friends of the graduates.

The Director of the Academy, Dr. Alexander Wolters, welcomed the distinguished guests and congratulated the graduates with the successful completion of their studies. During the opening speech, Dr. Wolters also expressed the Academy’s sincere gratitude to trustees, partners and donors for their advocacy, guidance and continuing support.

Following the Director’s welcoming speech, Mr. Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, addressed the graduating students: “We are proud to have such a wonderful institute as the OSCE Academy here in the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, which contributes to young professionals to gain quality knowledge, to pursue personal and professional goals for the greater benefit of regional development! We hope that the Academy continues its important educational activities, including the development of new programmes.

Ms.Danielle Meuwly Monteleone, Deputy Head of the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic, continued the congratulatory speeches and highlighted: “I believe that you are a part of a new generation of professionals that will be able to contribute to the development of your respective countries and to make the changes that are needed to overcome those challenges, be they in the international relations sphere, conflict prevention and security, or in economic and social development.”

Last but not least, students were addressed by Mr. Yuri Fenopetov, Acting Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek: “The young people whom we celebrate today, have completed the challenging, top-level study path [...] It has been a long and intense journey, one, which I hope, has enriched you from the cultural, professional and personal sides. I believe that each and every one of you has a capacity and skills to succeed and make our world a better place.

After the welcoming speeches, Mr. Fenopetov handed over the Diplomas to the graduates. The programme continued with the speeches from the Faculty and students and the announcements of nominees for Best Thesis Awards and Top GPA Awards. Nominees received certificates and prizes for their outstanding academic achievements. The graduates have become “Lifetime members” of the alumni network. As of December 2018, the total number of the OSCE Academy alumni has thus reached 474.
