University of St Andrews Delegation’s 8th visit to the OSCE Academy in Bishkek

From 19 till 24 of March a group of Masters students of the University of St. Andrews, studying the Central Asian region, visited the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. They were accompanied by Professor Rick Fawn, Director of the Institute of Middle East, Central Asia and Caucasus Studies (MECACS) and Dr. Matteo Fumagalli, Senior Lecturer, School of International Relations of the University of St Andrews. It was already the 8th visit to Kyrgyzstan in the framework of cooperation between the OSCE Academy and the University of St Andrews, initiated by Professor Rick Fawn.

On the first day, guests had a chance to meet with the students of the OSCE Academy at the joint simulation game trying to create a charter for a regional organization focused on cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources. Further, on 20 March all students participated in the Nooruz celebration at the OSCE Academy (watch video), exploring the cultural diversity of the region, its traditions and a large variety of tasty food. Towards the end of the trip, the guests visited the Burana Tower – a large minaret in the Chuy Valley in northern Kyrgyzstan, the attached museum and mausoleums, and learned more about the history of the Burana Tower and the ancient city of Balasagun.
