11 October, 2019

On 10 October the Senior Adviser of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Dr. John Mikal Kvistad, accompanied by the Norwegian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, H.E. Ole Johan Bjørnøy and the Norwegian Honorary Consul, Ms. Aijan Chynybaeva, visited the OSCE Academy and presented the White Paper on "Norway’s Role and Interests in Multilateral Cooperation" to students of the MA Programme in Security & Politics. Dr. Kvistad gave an overview of the current global situation, gave a definition of multilateral cooperation and discussed its importance in solving major global problems that no state alone would be able to solve. Furthermore, he gave an overview over six main challenges in the multilateral system, which international cooperation faces in the contemporary world, and outlined efforts and priorities the system must adapt to find solutions to these challenges. In particular, he introduced Norway’s role and interests in multilateral cooperation, referring to the limitations as well as the opportunities of a smaller country in Europe to engage world affairs. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session, where students had a chance to ask questions of their interests.
