Academy's Visiting Professor delivers a Lecture at the St. Petersburg Higher School of Economics

On 19 October 2019, Prof, Dr. Anja Mihr, DAAD Visiting Professor at the OSCE Academy gave a talk at the St. Petersburg Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Russia, on 'Global Governance and Human Rights'. The talk was part of  the  Annual October Readings that take place at the HSE dedicated to the topic of Human Rights. Dr. Mihr presented part of her research work on how human rights norm diffusion over the past decades led to increase of the empowerment of local authorities, people and institutions and how this empowerment and changing awareness changed local governance regimes. She stressed the general tendency that because of this global norm diffusion, power structures move from national institutions towards local and private once, and at the same time power is shared and moved to global and international organizations. 'Think global, act local!', has become a worldwide phenomenon of many CSOs and IGOs not only in the field of human rights. The talk was held at one of the plenary sessions of the October Readings at the HSE on 19 October and attended by students and professors of the School.
