Ms. Yau discussed the perception of Central Asia by the Great Powers (Russia, China, and the US), as well as their main interests, goals, and strategies in the region. Special attention was directed to the broader context of Chinese Foreign Policy in Taiwan and South China Sea when conceptualizing China’s goals in Central Asia. Ms. Yau talked about the current status of the Belt and Road Initiative in the region and the role of the multilateral organizations, like SCO and EAEU, within this Initiative. The audience was interested in how Central Asia has responded to China’s increased military presence in the region.
