OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ann Linde visits the OSCE Academy

On 13 April the OSCE Academy was honored to welcome the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Ann Linde, who visited the Academy within her official visit to Kyrgyzstan.

The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office was accompanied by Ambassador of Sweden to Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic, Christian Kamill, Head of the Task Force for Swedish Chair of the OSCE, Ambassador Petra Lärke, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, Ambassador Pierre von Arx, and Head Central Asia Desk at OSCE Secretariat, Conflict Prevention Centre (CPC), Kristin Höltge.

The Foreign Minister Linde informed students of the OSCE Academy about Sweden's 2021 priorities and encouraged students to contribute to the positive development of their countries. 

”I commend you for your choice to study at the Academy, an institution that embodies the role and inclusion of the youth in building a peaceful and prosperous future throughout the OSCE region. I encourage you to use the knowledge and skills you gain at the Academy to enact positive change in your communities in your countries, and in the wider OSCE region,”- said the Foreign Minister.

The introductory speech was followed by a meeting with students, representing Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Russia. Students shared their backgrounds and motivations to study at the Academy. During the Q&A session students asked Ms. Linde about the OSCE’s role in the peace process in Afghanistan and the prospects for settlement of the Ukrainian conflict with the participation of the OSCE.

H. E. Ann Linde is the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden. She has held that office since September 2019. Prior to that, Ms. Linde served as Minister for European Union Affairs and Trade, and from 2014 to 2016 she was State Secretary at Ministry for Home Affairs. From 2013 to 2014, she served as Head of the International Unit for the Party of European Socialists (PES), based in Brussels. She was the International Secretary of the Swedish Social Democratic Party from 2000 to 2013.
