Summer School “Regional Cooperation – Approaches from Central Asia and Europe”

Between 21-23 September, with support from the Volkswagen Stifung, the OSCE collaborated with Dortmund University to organize the Summer School “Regional Cooperation – Approaches from Central Asia and Europe.” This Summer School is a component of the research-based professionalization project “Between Stability and Transformation: Regional and Transnational Cooperation in Central Asia and between Central Asia and Europe (2016-2019).” This project aims to enhancethe interdisciplinary research capabilities of junior researchers in the field of social sciences.
Twenty four participants from Central Asia, Afghanistan and Russia participated in the Summer School. Participants were brought up to speed during a series of introductory, discussion-focused lectures. These lectures were then followed by a workshop based on individual topical preferences, moderated by a double chair – one with a Central Asian and one with a European cultural background.  Within these workshops, the participants discussed current issues in Central Asia--aiming to find solutions for given problems and identify new avenues of research.
