On 18 April a delegation of representatives from OSCE institutions, including Ambassador Peᚧko, Director of the Conflict Prevention Center, the heads of OSCE Field Missions in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the OSCE Troika, visited the Academy within the framework of their participation in the Regional Heads of Field Missions Meeting in Bishkek. Ambassador Peško addressed the Academy’s students on the OSCE’s position in today’s international system and in Central Asia in particular. He highlighted the role of the OSCE Academy: “For the OSCE the Academy is a flagship not only in a sense of academic development, but also in terms of improving security in the region, with its more than 400 graduates, who are the future leaders.

Ambassador Pierre von Arx, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, also shared with students the wide-range of activities of the OSCE in Kyrgyzstan and the career opportunities provided by the Office for students and graduates of the Academy.

After the presentations students discussed with the delegation the role of the OSCE in global security and in regional development; the possibilities for increasing the OSCE’s cooperation with Afghanistan; and the relations of the OSCE with the governments of Central Asian countries in broader terms.

The meeting with students was followed by a short presentation about the current developments and the long-term plans of the OSCE Academy by Director Alexander Wolters.
