Associate Research Fellow Miguel Iglesias Lopez delivered a Public Lecture on "Uneven Borderwork in Central Asia"

On 27 May the Academy’s Associate Research Fellow Miguel Iglesias Lopez delivered a Public Lecture on “Uneven Borderwork in Central Asia”. During the lecture, Mr. Iglesias Lopez talked about border controls and border management in Central Asia. In particular, he examined local arrangements and the role of international actors and international assistance in border security in Central Asian countries. Also, he tried to sketch a composite borderwork that differentially speeds, brakes or ignores certain people and goods in certain places at certain times.

The lecture was followed by a Q&A session where participants asked about the border issues between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan as well as between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan; about the research methodology; and about the effectiveness of the international assistance in border management.
