Research Capacity-Building Training on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE)

On 7 October Research capacity-building training on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) was conducted at the OSCE Academy by the Associate Research Fellow and Research Scholar Dr. Chiara Pierobon. This training is designed for young scholars and civil society organizations’ staff in Kyrgyzstan to strengthen their capacity of the phenomenon of violent extremism (VE) and its prevention (PVE). During the workshop Dr. Pierobon introduced key approaches, concepts, factors and variables explaining radicalization and de-radicalization processes; the challenges faced by researchers (and evaluators) analyzing VE- and PVE-related issues; as well as civil society organizations’ role and concrete contributions. Furthermore, participants had a chance to work in teams, developing their methodological skills with a focus on qualitative methodology and, more precisely, on semi-structured interviews.
