The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation, established in 2002 between the Kyrgyz Government and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE Academy promotes principles and values of the OSCE through post-graduate education, professional trainings and intellectual exchange. Its highly demanding MA Programmes in the fields of “Economic Governance and Development” and “Politics and Security (Central Asia)” annually enrol up to 60 young professionals from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, on a competitive basis. Moreover, the Academy hosts several Associate Research Fellows, publishes articles, policy briefs, and research papers on questions relevant to the Academy’s mission, and seeks continuously to strengthen its research capacity.

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek welcomes applications for 2 Research Scholarships from Junior Researchers / Academics.


Terms of Reference for Scholarships

• Monthly remuneration in the amount of 850-1000 EUR (gross/labour contract based);
• Position will be stationed at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek;
• Draft research paper at the end of the duration of the Scholarship;
• Final research paper to be published in one of the Academy’s publications series (for further information see here;
• Presentation of research project to interested audience at the Academy;

The aim of the Scholarships is to help increase the research capacity and research output of the OSCE Academy. To this end the Scholarship holder is asked to propose a topic in line with the overall mission in academia and education that guide the Academy’s various activities. It is furthermore desired that the Scholarship holder takes active part in ongoing projects and contributes to events at the Academy if they fall in line with the Scholarship holder’s area of expertise.

Eligibility / Candidates for this Scholarship should meet the following requirements:

• BA, MA, PhD Candidate and/or record of publications;
• Excellent knowledge of English;
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills;
• Clearly identified area of expertise / research interest in line with Academy’s research agenda;

The OSCE Academy will provide/cover:

• Visa and work permit support (if necessary);
• Office space and computer, as well as access to all facilities of the OSCE Academy.

NOTE: The Academy will not cover transport, accommodation, health insurance and expenses of family members. The Academy, however, assists with all issues related to travelling to Bishkek and finding housing in the city.

Interested applicants should submit the following documents:

• A cover letter;
• A CV with two references;
• List of publications (if available);
• A proposal for a research project to be conducted at the Academy (2-3 pages, including research question, methodology, expected outcome, timeline);
