International human rights norms, standards, treaties as well as organizations are framing our understanding of human rights, today. The equal and fair access to work, education and health, the right to development and self-determination as well as fundamental freedom rights of movement, of religion, expression, participation and consciences are just samples of the plethora of human rights that are currently challenged and disputed - worldwide.
This training seminar is addressed to scholars and practitioners who aim to broaden their understanding of international human rights norms, treaties. debates and politics, and about governments’ and civil society’s response to them. From the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) to the International Covenants on Social, Economic and Cultural as well as Political and Civil Rights (1966) and the UN Treaty Body System, the seminar will cover the normative and legal framework on United Nation and OSCE level as well as (briefly) other regional human rights organizations in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, to get a better comparative understanding where Central Asian countries are standing internationally.
The seminar will also address the possibilities and challenges that government, public administrations, and civil society face when implementing human rights. Specific human rights issues that are relevant for the Central Asian region such as Anti-Discrimination, protection of Minorities, Children rights, Human Trafficking, Racism, Religious rights, Women rights, and Labor rights will be specifically addressed in this training course.
