On 7 April 2022, Niva Yau, Project Researcher at the OSCE Academy, participated in the European Security Seminar on "The New Era of Confrontation: Ukraine, Russia, China and the West” organized by the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
The Marshall Center, dedicated in 1993, is a renowned international security and defense studies institute that promotes dialogue and understanding among the nations of North America, Europe and Eurasia. It is one of five U.S. Department of Defense Regional Centers and the only bilateral Center supported by the governments of the United States and Germany. In addition to supporting the European theater security cooperation strategies and objectives, the Marshall Center supports five South and Central Asian States: Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The Marshall Center also has a supporting relationship with Mongolia.
Ms. Yau presented views on ‘China in Central Asia: Interests and Implementations 1991 - 2022' during the panel 'Russia and China in Former Soviet Spaces’. She briefed the changes of Chinese security objectives in Central Asia throughout the years and the activities which have broadened in scope in response.
