Workshop on Eurasia in Geopolitical Globalised World

From 25 till 27 July 2024 the OSCE Academy hosted a workshop “Eurasia in Geopolitical Globalised World” led by Prof. Vincenzo Della Sala, Professor of political science at the University of Trento and the Director of the Jean Monnet Centre. The event was opened by Dr. Pal Dunay, Interim Director of the OSCE Academy, who welcomed the participants and shortly introduced the Academy’s activities, and by Prof. Della Sala, who provided an overview of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Geopolitics in Eurasia work and the workshop itself.

During three days twenty participants from Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan and Georgia learned and discussed an international order in the face of the tension between globalization and geopolitics and explored different issues and challenges where this tension might be more evident. These range from climate change, energy security, food, water and the managing of borders. The workshop focused on the policy questions that are raised and some possible scenarios for what they may mean for.

Participants also explored a range of cases in Eurasia, and more specifically Central Asia, as well as a range of topics, such as
1. Geopolitics of Energy and the Environment in a globalised geopolitical world
2. Geopolitics of Democracy and Human Rights in a globalised geopolitical world
3. The Geopolitics of Water
4. Geopolitics and Security Governance in a globalised geopolitical world
5. Regional integration and geopolitics
6. The Geopolitics of borders in a globalised geopolitical world Participants The workshop is aimed at current or future policy practitioners as well as political analysts and commentators, including journalists.

On 27 July participants received their certificates, awarded by Dr. Della Sala and Dr. Indira Satarkulova, Deputy Director of the OSCE Academy.

This workshop was part of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Geopolitics in Eurasia (University of Trento) and funded by the European Union.
