Global Classroom 2025 on Business, the Environment, and Human Rights Took Place in Bangkok

From 27 to 31 October 2025, the Global Campus of Human Rights organized its annual Global Classroom event in Bangkok, Thailand, with a focus on the themes of Business, the Environment, and Human Rights. The event was hosted by the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies (IHRP) at Mahidol University, a regional coordinator for the Asia-Pacific region of the Global Campus network.

This year, around 20 students and recent graduates from all seven Global Campus regional programmes participated, alongside academics and human rights experts, including GC Central Asia students of the MAHRS programme at the OSCE Academy. The students who attended this intensive training included Bakyt Dzhenyshpekova, Darya Vasilenko, Navruz Erkaev, Safina Saidibroimova, and Rachel Cantlow, all from the MAHRS class of 2026. The week-long course examined the links between business practices, environmental issues, and human rights protection across various sectors.

Before the on-site meetings, participants engaged in four months of online workshops that concentrated on five key industries: extractives, food systems, technology, value and supply chains, and defence. The workshops blended theoretical concepts such as green criminology and political ecology with hands-on training in advocacy, campaigning, and human rights documentation.

During their time in Bangkok, they honed their research and advocacy projects with guidance from experts from organizations like Amnesty International Thailand, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, the Manushya Foundation, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Thailand, Human Rights Myanmar, and the Alternative ASEAN Network on Burma (ALTSEAN-Burma).
