Vacancy Announcement: Media Consultant (2 positions)

The OSCE Academy offers a competitive monthly remuneration of $1,100 (gross) per person for the part-time position of Media Consultant, for 3 months starting on 1 December 2021 pending the availability of funding. The position will be based in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The Media Consultant will be supporting the Research and Training Unit for a research project on medias in Kyrgyzstan, working on the following tasks:

  • Recruit, arrange and conduct interviews with media actors in Kyrgyzstan requested by the research team;
  • Maintain accurate full records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects as necessary;
  • Support acquisition of media content no longer publicly available, such as tape recordings of national news programme, radio programmes, newspapers and others;
  • Provide background knowledge and analysis of medias in Kyrgyzstan;
  • Event planning of research presentation;
  • Plan own day-to-day research activity within the context of the required research programme;
  • Implement other duties at the request of the Research and Training Unit;
  • Basic English shall be the reporting language of all of the above tasks. In exceptional cases, English is not required.

Necessary qualifications:

  • Completed BA degree and/or relevant diplomas;
  • At least 5 years of working experience in the Kyrgyz media industry;
  • Clearly demonstrable expertize and knowledge to complete required tasks of this project;
  • Advanced Russian and Kyrgyz language, basic command of English;
  • Experienced computer user;
  • Ability to learn fast, work independently or with team in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent analytical skills, experience of working with a large amount of information and documentation within a short period of time;
  • Experience in relevant areas is an asset;
  • Ability to travel.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Prior experience working for more than one media in Kyrgyzstan and/or conducted research on medias in Kyrgyzstan;
  • Demonstrable contacts and networks with journalists and media actors in Kyrgyzstan.
