The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation, created in 2002 between the Kyrgyz Government and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE Academy promotes the principles and values of the OSCE through post-graduate education, advanced research, professional trainings and intellectual exchange. Its highly demanding MA programmes in the fields of “Economic Governance and Development” and “Politics and Security (Central Asia)” enrol a total of up to 60 young professionals on a competitive basis per year, from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The newly launched MA Programme in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS) is a graduate MA Programme at the OSCE Academy that started this academic year in September 2023. It is designed as a trans- and interdisciplinary MA Programme, bridging international law, political sciences, security policies, peace and conflict studies and humanities. It will include internships for students in International Organizations, Think Tanks, and CSO/NGOs with a related focus in their work.
The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is looking for a Lecturer for the courses on “Quantitative and Qualitative Interdisciplinary Research Methods - conducting research and impact assessment in the fields of International Law and Social Sciences” (6 ECTS) and “Applied Research and Teaching Course: International Human Rights Law & Sustainable Development Goals” (3 ECTS) in its newly established MA Programme in Human Rights and Sustainability.
Courses time frame: February – March, 2024
Quantitative and Qualitative Interdisciplinary Research Methods - conducting research and impact assessment in the field of International Law and Social Sciences, 6 credits
This advanced course is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct rigorous research and impact assessments in the dynamic fields of International Law and Social Sciences. By combining quantitative and qualitative research methods, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to investigate complex issues, evaluate policies, and measure the social, political, and legal impact of various initiatives.
Applied Research and Teaching Course: IHRL & SDGs, 3 credits
This course is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the intersection between International Human Rights Law (IHRL) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It emphasizes both the practical application of IHRL principles and the role of SDGs in promoting social, economic, and environmental sustainability. The course is intended to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to teach and conduct applied research in these critical areas.
Candidates for these positions should meet the following requirements:
• PhD degree in Social Science, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field
• Record of teaching excellence and service
• Record of peer-reviewed publications
• Excellent knowledge of English
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
The OSCE Academy will provide/cover:
• 1360– 1600 EUR / one credit as gross salary. Final amount depending on interview results
• Office space and computer, as well as access to all facilities of the OSCE Academy
NOTE: The Academy will not cover transport, accommodation, health insurance and expenses of family members. The Academy, however, assists with all issues related to travelling to Bishkek, including non-financial visa and work permit support, and finding housing in the city.
