Open Call for Master’s Programmes (Lecturers): Politics and Security (PS) & Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS)

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is looking for Lecturers for its MA programmes in Politics and Security (PS) and its newly launched MA programme in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS).

This call is open-ended and welcomes all interested candidates.

MA in Politics and Security (PS) enrolls about 25-30 students annually. Students come from all Central Asian states, Afghanistan, and Mongolia. The rigorous curriculum draws from the most relevant aspects of International Relations, Comparative Politics, Security Studies, and Development. The programme has been operating since 2004. It is designed for young people who wish to broaden their education and gain the knowledge and skills necessary for professional or academic careers in areas of politics, security, international relations, conflict prevention and international development

MA in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS), the new programme launched in 2023, enrolls a maximum of 25 students from all Central Asian states, Afghanistan, and Mongolia annually. MAHRS is the first interdisciplinary Programme for Human Rights in Central Asia, implemented in cooperation with the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice, focusing on learning, applying, monitoring, and implementing human rights, good governance, and sustainability principles and norms as stipulated by the UN Human Rights Regimes and the 2015 SDGs (Agenda 2030).  It aims to train and empower young scholars and professionals, and graduate students to work and be active in the spheres of public administration, CSOs, and IGOs. The programme is financed by the European Union (EU) and the OSCE Academy in Bishkek.

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation established in 2002 by the Kyrgyz Government and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE Academy promotes the principles and values of the OSCE through post-graduate education, professional training, advanced research, and intellectual exchange. Its demanding MA programmes in the fields of “Economic Governance and Development” and “Politics and Security (Central Asia)” on a competitive basis enroll a total of up to 60 young professionals per year from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

You will work in and scholarly, respected higher education and research institute in Central Asia. The Academy has a high impact academic and personal development of future leaders, offering a creative intellectual climate and international atmosphere. As a city, Bishkek provides an array of international organizations and universities in the heart of the mountainous Central Asia countries and easy access and traveling.

Once selected, specific course duties and design should be further discussed with the Head of the Department of Graduate Education of the OSCE Academy.

Requirements:
• PhD degree in social sciences, humanities, security, law and interdisciplinary research, or a related field
• Relevant teaching experience (including using e-learning platforms)
• Excellent command of academic English
• Practical interpersonal and communication skills

The OSCE Academy will provide/cover:
• 1360-1600 EUR / per credit as gross salary. The final amount depends on interview results;
• Office space and computer, as well as access to all facilities of the OSCE Academy.

NOTE: The Academy will not cover transport, accommodation, health insurance, and expenses of family members. The Academy, however, assists with all issues related to traveling to Bishkek, including non-financial visa and work permit support and finding housing in the city.
