The OSCE Academy Students Visit the Kyrgyz Parliament

On 17 March the OSCE Academy organized an introductory tour for the students of the Academy and the University of St Andrews (UK) to the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan. During the tour the Academy’s MA in Politics and Security students together with a group of visiting Central Asia students of the University of St. Andrews met with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs MP Kanybek Imanaliev and MP Ravshan Jeenbekov, one of the leaders of the newly established opposition movement.

After the welcoming by MPs and short overview of the history and structure of Parliament of Kyrgyzstan students had a chance to ask questions and engage in a discussion, covering a broad range of topics, such as the political structure of Kyrgyzstan, the current events in Ukraine; post-2014 Afghanistan and its implications for Central Asian security; consequences of the entrance into the Eurasian Customs Union; democratization process in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asian region, and other related questions.
