Students learned about the Agroforestry Activities in Central Asia

On 14 February Dr. Niels Thevs, Coordinator for Central Asia for World Agroforestry – ICRAF, currently with the University of Central Asia, delivered a lecture on “Water Resources and Agriculture in Central Asia – Positive Contributions from Agroforestry” to students of the MA in Economic Governance and Development programme. Dr. Thevs firstly presented general information about water circulation, the rainbow water concept and the crucial role of forests in the process of transportation of precipitation inland and gave an overview of the water consumption and agriculture conditions in Central Asia. He further spoke about the World Agroforestry organization that works on preserving and conserving forestry and ensures environmental sustainability globally. In particular in Central Asia, ICRAF implements projects to build up resilience to water stress and to help creating income opportunities via growing shelterbelts.
