Swiss Delegation visits the OSCE Academy

On 25 September the OSCE Academy was visited by Ambassador Ruth Huber, Vice-Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Head of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department, the Swiss Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic, Véronique Hulmann, Ms. Barbara Jäggi Hasler, Deputy Head of Eurasian Division of SDC, accompanied by Ambassador Dr. Pierre von Arx, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek. During the visit, the distinguished guests were informed by the Academy management about its current activities, latest developments and achievements and about the plans for the near future. Following this introduction the delegation had a chance to meet with current MA students and discuss the possibilities of Central Asian integration as well as the inhibiting factors to such integration in present times; the role of civil society in the democratization process; radicalization and its potential causes in the region. The meeting was concluded by an overview of the activities of Switzerland in Central Asia and in Kyrgyzstan in particular, provided by Ambassador Hulmann.

Switzerland is one of the main donors of the OSCE Academy that supports Academy’s activities, including MA Programmes, Alumni activities and Trainings since 2005.
