On 20 May Academy students had a chance to learn more about the work of the parliamentary system in Germany and discuss the upcoming election to the European Parliament with Dr. Michael Schäfer, Managing Director of the SPD Bundestag faction, who came to the Academy accompanied by Mr. Alexander Rosenplänter, Director of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in Bishkek. Dr. Schäfer came to Kyrgyzstan to develop links for future cooperation with the Kyrgyz Parliament.

Zalina Enikeeva, Alumna of 2016 of the MA in Economic Governance and Development Programme received the 1st Alumni Travel Grant of 2019. Zalina used this grant to participate in the XX April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development, held on April 9-12, 2019, in Moscow, National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University). The Conference’s Programme Committee was chaired by Professor Evgeny Yasin, HSE University’s Academic Supervisor.

On 3 May the OSCE Academy organized a Chapter meeting for its alumni currently working and residing in Nur-Sultan. 11 graduates gathered for a meeting with Academy Faculty member Dr. Asel Doolotkeldieva.

On 6 May H.E. Dr. Gerhard Sailler, Ambassador of Austria to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan started his official trip to Kyrgyzstan with the visit to the OSCE Academy. Ambassador Sailler met with Ms. Indira Satarkulova, Academy Deputy Director, who presented updates on the Academy’s activities, its financial situation and on internal administrative developments.

On 29 April the OSCE Academy welcomed the first group of 6 MA students from the German-Kazakh University in Almaty, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, for a short research stay. This visit is organized within the partnership between the OSCE Academy and the German-Kazakh University in Almaty, concluded in February 2019.

Between 24 to 26 of April Academy Director Dr. Alexander Wolters visited Oslo for official meetings with the representatives of the Academy's long-term partner, the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), and of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs which has been supporting the cooperation between the Academy and NUPI in the past years.

On 23 April Academy's Associate Research Fellow Niva Yau Tsz Yan delivered a Public Lecture on "Making Sense of the Belt and Road Initiative in Central Asia." Throughout the lecture, Ms. Yau Tsz Yan described the largest Chinese infrastructure project “Belt and Road Initiative” (known as the One-Belt-One-Road before 2016) and presented Chinese foreign policy as a theoretical ground in understanding the Initiative.

On 18 April DAAD Visiting professor at the OSCE Academy, Prof. Dr. Anja Mihr, delivered a lecture to students of the MA programmes and the Academy’s staff on the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission to the first round of the Ukrainian presidential elections, held on 31 March 2019, and shared with her personal experience as member of the International short-term Election Observation Mission.
