Public Lecture on Transnational At-tractions in Sympathies of Students in Kyrgyzstan

On 31 May 2023, Barbara Meier, Associate Research Fellow at the OSCE Academy, delivered a public lecture on "Capturing Transnational At-tractions in Sympathies of Students in Bishkek and Osh." Ms. Meier presented her research project in Kyrgyzstan, which focuses on transnational aspirations in students' educational choices, such as language learning or interest in specific study programs. She discussed the concept of 'sympathy' and its application in the context of transnational justice. "Thin sympathy" refers to the idea of a minimal or superficial response to mediated pictures or information from foreign places. The lecturer observed these sparks in everyday interactions of students in Bishkek and Osh, where they are located or conducting their research.
