On 2 September 2024, the OSCE Academy organized its Orientation Day for newly admitted graduate and undergraduate students. The incoming classes are comprised of 71 students representing five countries of Central Asia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Denmark, Mongolia, Russia, and the UK.
In his welcome speech, Dr. Pal Dunay, Interim Director of the OSCE Academy, gave an overview of the Academy's recent developments, current programmes, and activities. He encouraged the students to regard the Academy as a platform where they can maximize their knowledge development through active engagement with fellow course-mates, colleagues working and teaching at the Academy, guest speakers and visitors. Following Dr. Dunay’s words of welcome, Dr. Indira Satarkulova, Deputy Director of the OSCE Academy, presented the Academy’s policies, students’ life on campus, renting apartments, places to/not to visit, what to do if students interact with police, few recommendations related to dress code policy, class attendance, and reminded them to check and keep records regarding their visas, registration. This was aimed at preparing the students for classes, familiarising them with the Academy’s practices and policies, connecting them with its resources (e.g. the library), and support available to them as part of the OSCE Academy community.
Students were also informed about the Harassment Prevention Policy of the Academy by Ms. Azhar Kaltarbekova, Gender Focal Point/International Department Assistant, and have undergone security instructions with Mr. Mirlan Akhmetov, Senior Security Guard.
Following the general introductory part students were led to their classrooms to meet their supervisors to learn more about their academic programmes.
