22 May, 2025

On 22 May 2025, Dr. Shah Zaman, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the OSCE Academy, delivered a public lecture titled “Environmental Performance and SDGs: How Income Disparity, Urbanization, Resource Consumption, and Female Employment Affect the Ecological Footprint in Emerging Economies.” Dr. Pal Dunay, Director of the OSCE Academy, welcomed attendees and opened the lecture, which was conducted in a hybrid format. Dr. Zaman outlined the threats posed by climate change and examined the impact of urbanization on energy consumption patterns and environmental quality. He also addressed how the rates of female employment influence the environment. Dr. Zaman concluded that there was solid evidence that female employment and also an increase in the number of female employees has a positive environmental effect. At the conclusion of his presentation, Dr. Shah Zaman offered policy recommendations and practices aimed at mitigating these risks. The lecture finished with an active Q&A session, where the audience asked questions regarding the applied research methods and the literature review on the topic.

This presentation is a part of the Postdoctoral Fellowship programme aimed at increasing the capacity and research output of the OSCE Academy. The programme is financially supported by the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), which has been one of the key donors and partners of the Academy since 2010.
