On February 29, 2016, Mr Tolkunbek Abdygulov, the National Bank Chairman, gave a lecture to the OSCE Academy students in the framework of the course taught by Dr David Grant - Economic Governance and Regulation, MA in Economic Governance and Development Programme.
During the lecture Mr Abdygulov discussed the regulation of the financial sector of Kyrgyzstan and identified three major reasons of the Central Bank regulations: protection of depositors, prevention of money laundering and protection of clients. Also he informed that currently there are 24 commercial banks in Kyrgyzstan and explained the policy of the Central Bank regarding them.
In the second part of the lecture he spoke about the macroeconomic situation and the current economic crisis in Kyrgyzstan. During the lecture students asked tricky questions about devaluation of the national currency, de-dollarization policy and the issue of exchange bureaus in Kyrgyzstan.
