OSCE Academy Research Fellows discuss China Affairs in Central Asia and Afghanistan at Conference in Georgia

On 5-6 July 2022, Niva Yau, Senior Researcher, Temur Umarov and Anton Bugayenko, Research Fellows of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, hosted a panel on “China’s readiness in Afghanistan and impacts on the region” at conference “PRC’s role in reshaping the global order” in Borjomi, Georgia.

This is the third international conference organised by the Civic Initiative for Democratic and Euro-Atlantic Choice in Georgia on the impacts of the People’s Republic of China on the world. The event, supported by the National Endowment for Democracy, the Embassy of Poland and the United States in Tbilisi, brought together regional experts on China affairs from Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia.

In the panel, OSCE Academy researchers discussed the latest China-led developments in regional engagement with the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan, views from Beijing and Central Asia countries, and areas of possible engagement from other actors.
