Guest Lecture on Implementing the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture (OPCAT) in the Kyrgyz Republic

On 13 March 2023, Mr. Bakyt Rysbekov, Director of the National Centre of the Kyrgyz Republic on Prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (the National Centre), and Mr. Bakytbek Kasymkulov, Head of the Department for Control and Coordination of the National Centre, gave a guest lecture on 'Implementing the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture (OPCAT) in the Kyrgyz Republic: The situation with torture in the Kyrgyz Republic' to students of the MA Programme in Politics and Security. The lecture was conducted as part of the course ‘Contemporary Security Studies’ taught by Dr. Elena Zhirukhina.

Mr. Rysbekov and Mr. Kasymkulov spoke about the torture prevention, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. They briefed on the mandate of the National Centre, its activities and implementation of the OPCAT in the Kyrgyz Republic.
