2nd Short-term Course on Introduction to East Asian Politics

On 13-17 March 2023, the second short-term course on Introduction to East Asian Politics was organized at the OSCE Academy. The course brought together students majoring in Chinese language studies/Chinese studies from universities located in Bishkek. The programme of the course focused on the People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Republic of China (Taiwan). During the week, eight students learned more about the history, political transformation, political economy, conflicts, and territorial disputes of East Asian countries. Students improved their skills in argumentative discourse, ability to engage in constructive polemics, and analytical writing skills through lectures, expert analysis seminars, team debates, and analytical essay writing sessions. The training was led by Temur Umarov, a Research Fellow at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek and a Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
