Students Meet World Bank Country Manager to Discuss Good Governance

On 3 July 2024 students of the MA in Economic Governance and Development group met Mr. Hugh Riddell, the World Bank Country Manager for the Kyrgyz Republic to discuss the projects of the World Bank and activities in Kyrgyzstan. During his talk Mr. Riddell shared his extensive professional experience with the students, particularly working in countries during crises, such as Afghanistan, Somalia, and Malawi, three states where he spent several years during his carrier. Students were also interested to hear about the ongoing projects of the World Bank in Kyrgyzstan and at which areas the new projects would be focusing. The discussion in the class centred around the tailor-made nature of World Bank activities in various countries, and its priorities in Kyrgyzstan. in areas like energy, water management, and agriculture. This guest lecture was held within the framework of the module: "Good governance in Central Asia" taught by Mr. Aibek Ashirov.
