  • OSCE Academy signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the French Institute for Central Asian Studies

    On 22 February 2022 Dr. Alexander Wolters, Director of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, and Dr. Adrien Fauve, Director of the French Institute for Central Asian Studies (IFEAC), signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Collaboration. The goal the partnership is to establish long-term scientific cooperation between the two institutions aimed at the implementation of joint projects and ideas.

  • Public Lecture: “Understanding the International Order of the Post-Soviet Region”

    On 15 February 2022 Dr. Rigina Syssoeva, Astana International University and an Associate Research Fellow at the OSCE Academy, delivered a Public Lecture on “Understanding the International Order of the Post-Soviet Region”. Dr. Syssoeva presented the “Non-hegemonic cooperation” model, developed by the American political scientist Robert Keohane and elaborated that Keohane’s model can be applied to the post-Soviet region.

  • OSCE Academy Commencement for Class of 2020

    On 4 February 2022, 40 students of the MA Programmes in Politics & Security and in Economic Governance & Development of the class of 2020-2021 received their degrees and graduated from the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Graduation Ceremony was held in a hybrid format. While Bishkek-based students joined the ceremony in person, students from other countries of Central Asia, Mongolia, Russia and the USA joined via ZOOM.

  • Public Lecture: “EU and Central Asia Relations”

    On 1 February 2022 Prof. Dr. Jakob Lempp, Associate Research Fellow at the OSCE Academy, and Professor at the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, delivered a Public Lecture on "EU and Central Asia Relations". In his presentation, Dr. Lempp talked about EU actions towards Central Asia.

  • Second Workshop on Strengthening Youth Crime and Drug use Prevention

    On 24 and 25 January 2022, the Transnational Threats Department and the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, in co-operation with the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, jointly hosted a two-day workshop on youth crime and drug use prevention in Bishkek.

  • Public Lecture titled “Rethinking the Interaction between Cryptocurrencies and Citizen Empowerment in Central Asia”

    On 18 January 2022 Dr. Michael Lambert, Associate Research Fellow at the OSCE Academy, delivered a Public Lecture titled “Rethinking the Interaction between Cryptocurrencies and Citizen Empowerment in Central Asia”. In the first part of the lecture, Dr. Lambert provided brief information on Cryptocurrency and indicated the strengths and weaknesses of Cryptocurrencies in the context of Central Asian countries.

    Nuria Kutnaeva is alumna of 2005, MA Programme in Politics and Security from Kyrgyzstan. Director and Founder of the Public Foundation "DigitalTechnology”. Nuria introduced the electronic interoperability system “Tunduk” in the Kyrgyz Republic.

  • Experts talk about Energy Transit in Central Asia

    On 17 January 2022 the OSCE Academy in Bishkek in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), and the Europe-Central Asia Monitoring (EUCAM) hosted the Open Workshop on “Energy Transition and Central Asia” in a hybrid format, which participants had a chance to join in-person and online.

  • Alumnus of the Year 2021: Rashid Gabdulhakov: “through my work, I aim to spotlight people, places, and cases that are underrepresented, misrepresented, or simply ignored in academia”

    Rashid Gabdulhakov is a graduate of 2013 of the MA Programme in Politics and Security from Uzbekistan. This year Rashid received the Alumnus of the Year 2021 Award for his professional development and achievements after the graduation from the OSCE Academy. On 7 October 2021, Rashid successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Digital Vigilantism in Russia: Citizen-led Justice in the Context of Social Change and Social Harm” and obtained a PhD degree in Media and Communication (Cum Laude). Upon defending, Rashid became an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
