Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Central Asia

On 3 October 2024 the OSCE Academy had the honour to welcome H. E. Kaha Imnadze, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Asia, the Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), accompanied by Mr. Mirlan Mamyrov, Programme Officer, Representative of the UNRCCA in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Deputy Director Participates in the Rectors' Club Meeting

On 28 September 2024 Dr. Indira Satarkulova, Deputy Director of the OSCE Academy, participated in the meeting of the Rectors’ Club “Central Asia+” titled “Navigating Change: Leadership Challenges in Modern Academia.” The event was opened by the host, President of the American University of Central Asia Timothy O’Connor, followed by welcome remarks from the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Higher and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akerke Abylaikhan, and President and founder of Almaty Management University (AlmaU) and founder of the Rectors Club "Central Asia+"; Asylbek Kozhakhmetov.

Students Discuss Youth Crime Prevention with the OSCE Experts

On 30 September 2024, the OSCE Academy in Bishkek hosted a guest lecture on the theme of "Preventing Youth Engagement in Crime: OSCE’s Evidence-Based Approach." The event featured two sessions focusing on global and regional trends in youth crime prevention, with a particular emphasis on Central Asia.

OSCE Academy and MNU MIND Discuss the Future Cooperation

On 27 September 2024 the OSCE Academy welcomed Mr. Abay Aidyn, Programme Manager, Center for Analytics and Research MIND and Ms. Natalia Bachinskaia, Director of Development at Chapter Zero from MIND, Applied Think Tank at Maqsut Narikbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan. Dr. Pal Dunay, Interim Director at the OSCE Academy and Ms. Victoria Orazova, Head of the International Department at the OSCE Academy informed the guests about the Academy and its role as a research institution in Central Asia, and discussed the ways the two institutions could collaborate and contribute to research in the region.

Students Explore PhD Opportunities in EU with Prof. Gruszczynski

From 16 till 20 September 2024, Prof. Lukasz Gruszczynski, a Visiting Lecturer at the OSCE Academy and a participant of the Erasmus+ Staff for Teaching Mobility programme from Kozminski University in Poland, conducted a seminar titled "Embark on an Academic Journey: Exploring PhD Opportunities in the European Union," for MA students at the Academy. The sessions, centered on application processes for academic programmes, provided students with practical advice on navigating the complexities of higher education applications.

Book Launch: “The EU as an Actor in Central Asia: External Impacts, Regional Responses”

On 20 September 2024, a book launch, featuring “The EU as an Actor in Central Asia: External Impacts, Regional Responses,” was held at the OSCE Academy as part of the Alumni Conference. The event was led by both editors - Dr. Sebastian Mayer, DAAD Associate Professor at the OSCE Academy, and Dr. Jakob Lempp, full Professor of International Relations and Politics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve, Germany. The collection will be released in early November and is published in the Palgrave Studies in European Union Politics series. The event was attended by the Alumni Conference participants (in person and online), the OSCE Academy students, and representatives of the EU Delegation in Kyrgyzstan.

Alumni Gather for Annual Conference to Discuss Economic Development in the Region

On 20-21 September 2024, the OSCE Academy conducted its annual Alumni Conference on the theme of “Economic Development of Central Asia” featuring three panels: Anti-Corruption, Green Economy and Digital Economy.

Session with Dr. Alexander Diener on Central Asia’s Border Diplomacy and Para-Diplomacy

On 19 September 2024 the OSCE Academy hosted a guest lecture by Dr. Alexander Diener, Professor of Geography at the University of Kansas, on the topic “Central Asia’s Borders: Levels of Diplomacy and Para-Diplomacy.” The lecture shed light on the multifaceted nature of borders in the Central Asian region, exploring how states and non-state actors influence border dynamics and regional stability.

Students Discuss the Business Approach to Fighting Corruption with Dr. Maximilian Burger-Scheidlin From ICC Austria

On 19 September 2024 the OSCE Academy hosted a guest lecture by Dr. Maximilian Burger-Scheidlin, Executive Director of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Austria. The lecture titled “Competitiveness in Challenging Business Environments: Key Impediments - Short-termism & Corruption? How to Invigorate a Business Environment to Benefit All?” addressed the pressing challenges businesses face globally, particularly in environments plagued by instability and corruption.

On 18 September 2024 the OSCE Academy had the honour to welcome H. E. Ambassador Thomas Greminger, Chairman of the Board of the PeaceNexus Foundation and Executive Director of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), accompanied by Mr. Kanatbek Abdiev, Programme Officer for Central Asia. The distinguished guests were welcomed by Dr. Pal Dunay, Interim Director of the OSCE Academy, and the Academy’s staff members and lecturers.
