Position for Master’s in Liberal Arts and Sciences in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS)

The vacant Senior Academic Tutor for the MA Programme in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS) position involves teaching in the areas of International Human Rights Law and Sustainability at the MA level, Programme management and coordination, as well as managerial and leadership tasks with faculty and students.

The post holder will be expected to contribute actively to programme-related responsibilities. This position is related to the MA in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS), a 2-year graduate programme at the OSCE Academy.

The position will ideally start on June 1 2026, and end on December 31 2026, with the possibility of extension upon mutual approval and available funding. Further continuation of the collaboration depends on both parties’ agreement and the Academy’s developments.

The MAHRS Link: https://gc-centralasia.net/ is a trans- and interdisciplinary master’s programme that connects international law, political sciences, security policies, peace and conflict studies, and the humanities, with a focus on the UN SDGs. It is part of a global network of more than 100 universities and programmes in human rights and democratic institution building. It is also the eighth regional partner master’s programme of the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice, Italy.

The position is under the direct supervision of the Academy’s management, and in coordination with the Head of the Education Department, the MAHRS Academic Director and the Team at the OSCE Academy.

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek (OSCE Academy) is a public foundation, created in 2002 between the Kyrgyz Government and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE Academy promotes the principles and values of the OSCE through education, advanced research, professional training, and intellectual exchange. Its two other highly demanding MA programmes in the fields of “Economic Governance and Development” and “Politics and Security (Central Asia)” enrol a total of up to 60 young professionals on a competitive basis per year, from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and beyond.

Application Requirements & Key Duties

  • Hold an international PhD in Law, Social Sciences or Sociology (preferably)
  • Fluency in English and Russian
  • Min of 5 years in teaching on MA level in English
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Central Asia and beyond.
  • Oversee daily operations of MAHRS programme and Child Rights activities
  • Project Management: Liaise with various stakeholders of MAHRS such as visiting faculty and Global Campus of Human Rights representatives, whose input affects the operations of the degree programme https://www.gchumanrights.org/
  • Participate in the further development of MA programme-related quality control mechanisms and corresponding evaluation tools;
  • Represent the programme in meetings, relevant gatherings, and assemblies when necessary.

The OSCE Academy will provide/cover:

  • The salary range will be discussed based on the results of the interview.
  • Visa and work permit support (fees for visa and work permit application to be borne by the applicant);
  • Office space and a computer, as well as access to all of the OSCE Academy’s facilities in Bishkek.
