Kyrgyzstan Elected as Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2027-8

In the evening of the 3rd of June 2026, Kyrgyzstan was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for two years (2027-8). Kyrgyzstan received 142 votes in the UN General Assembly in support of its candidacy. This is a major recognition to Kyrgyzstan as a state, to Kyrgyz foreign policy and diplomacy. It is also a major success of those who achieved it.

The OSCE Academy heartily congratulates its host state and wishes great success in this function. As a regional educational institution, the OSCE Academy knows how important a contribution those two years will mean to gain further experience in international relations globally, and contribute to the visibility and recognition of Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan is the second Central Asian state that has such an honor and responsibility. (Kazakhstan was a non-permanent member of the UNSC in 2017-8.)
