The Global Campus of Human Rights Central Asia (GCCA) and the MA programme in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS), based at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, are seeking a part-time Junior Researcher and Lecturer for its Climate Perspective Education (CPE) Project, starting 1 September 2026.
The CPE Junior Researcher/Lecturer will participate in activities with MAHRS and its students at the OSCE Academy, focusing on climate change-related work, including teaching, projects, research, and publications. The activities will mainly address climate change-induced migration and climate change governance in Central Asia.
MAHRS is a two-year graduate master’s programme at the OSCE Academy and the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice. CPE focuses on Sustainability/SDGs. S/he will work closely with the MAHRS Academic Director at the Academy.
The position is part-time and may be carried out remotely, with office space available at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek when needed.
The OSCE Academy & Global Campus Central Asia
The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation established in 2002 through a partnership between the Kyrgyz Government and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The Academy promotes OSCE principles and values through postgraduate education, advanced research, professional training, and intellectual exchange. It offers three MA programmes that admit up to 60 young professionals annually on a competitive basis from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. In 2023, the OSCE Academy launched the Global Campus Central Asia (GCCA) and the MAHRS programme. It features a two-year, full-time MA programme in Human Rights, as well as in Sustainability/SDGs. Climate change-related subjects are a core focus of the GCCA and the MAHRS programme. The GCCA is co-funded by the European Union/Global Campus in Venice and other external donors. For this CPE project, GCCA receives funding from the German Ministry for Development Cooperation (BMZ) in Berlin.
Main Tasks and Duties:
- -Plan, organize, and coordinate Climate Change-related activities with MAHRS students and faculty in Bishkek.
- -Develop new CPE projects and training programmes for future regional implementation.
- -Collaborate with the Global Campus Central Asia/MAHRS partners and regional universities, along with the eight regional GC hubs worldwide, as well as with International Organizations and CSOs in Central Asia.
- -Attend Global Campus team meetings related to CPE.
- -Oversee, organize, and revise CPE research outputs.
- -Facilitate CPE workshops and co-teach in the MAHRS programme.
- -Providing regular updates on CPE to the MAHRS/GCCA Academic Director.
Qualifications and Skills:
- -Minimum 2 years of academic working experience in climate change and environmental justice-related matters: teaching, research, publications, and/or project coordination.
- -Experience with any of the eight Global Campus hubs, alumni network, MA programmes, or projects in the field of climate change worldwide.
- -Experience in supporting and supervising students’ research and academic writing.
- -MA degree in Education, Social Sciences, Economics, or Law.
- -Excellent knowledge of English (knowledge of the official language of one of the Central Asian states is an asset).
The OSCE Academy will provide or cover:
- -The part-time salary range will be discussed based on the interview results.
- -Visa and work permit support (fees for visa and work permit application to be borne by the applicant);
- -Office space, a computer, and access to all of the OSCE Academy’s facilities.
