  • Two OSCE Academy Representatives take part in Strategic Security Meetings in Thailand

    On 27-29 May, faculty and staff members of the Academy MA Programme in Politics and Security, Dr. Emil Dzhuraev (Senior Lecturer) and Ms. Svetlana Dzardanova (Programme Manager), took part in the working meetings of the Strategic Security Network of the Near East – South Asia Center (NESA), “Difficulties and Opportunities of Connectivity”, held in Bangkok, Thailand.

  • The Module within the framework of Cooperation between OSCE Academy and Gorchakov Fund

    Between 27 and 31 May students of the MA Programme in Politics and Security learnt about relations between China and Central Asia and China’s policy towards Central Asia within the framework of the module on “Central Asia and China,” taught by Dr. Yana Leksyutina, from St. Petersburg State University.

  • Students of the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs visited the OSCE Academy

    On 30 May students from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs visited the OSCE Academy within their annual trip to Central Asian countries. The delegation was welcomed by Ms. Indira Satarkulova, Academy Deputy Director, who introduced the main activities and projects of the Academy.

  • Associate Research Fellow Miguel Iglesias Lopez delivered a Public Lecture on "Uneven Borderwork in Central Asia"

    On 27 May the Academy’s Associate Research Fellow Miguel Iglesias Lopez delivered a Public Lecture on “Uneven Borderwork in Central Asia”. During the lecture, Mr. Iglesias Lopez talked about border controls and border management in Central Asia. In particular, he examined local arrangements and the role of international actors and international assistance in border security in Central Asian countries. Also, he tried to sketch a composite borderwork that differentially speeds, brakes or ignores certain people and goods in certain places at certain times.

  • Experts discuss the New Approaches to Regional and International Cooperation

    On 23-24 May the International conference “The EU, Central Asia and the South Caucasus: new approaches on regional and international cooperation” took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. This conference has been co-organized by the Institute for European Politics (IEP), Germany, the Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE), France, in cooperation with the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. It is the fourth and last conference of the PhD Programme “EUCACIS” for Postgraduates and Doctoral Researchers in Central Asia and the South Caucasus, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme and Volkswagen Foundation.

  • Academy hosted an Opening Ceremony of the Analytical Centre under the Kyrgyz State Customs Service

    On 22 May the OSCE Academy hosted the official opening ceremony of the “Central Eurasian Transboundary Research Network” (CETRN) – an analytical centre under the Kyrgyz State Customs Service. The ceremony was opened by Ambassador Pierre von Arx, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek. “This centre was opened with the assistance of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek in October 2018 as part of the co-operation plan for 2018 between the State Customs Service under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek in order to raise awareness and increase the study of regional economic and trade initiatives” – underlined Ambassador and highlighted that the OSCE Academy was chosen as a venue, as “it gathers young professionals and future leaders for all Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Mongolia.

  • European-American Young Leaders visit the Academy

    On 21 May more than 40 participants of the Global Bridges’ XVIII European-American Young Leaders Conference visited the Academy as part of their 5-day programme in Bishkek. Academy Director Dr. Alexander Wolters presented the Academy’s programmes and activities as well as discussed with guests the current developments in the wider Central Asian region.

  • Students meet the Managing Director of the SPD Bundestag Faction

    On 20 May Academy students had a chance to learn more about the work of the parliamentary system in Germany and discuss the upcoming election to the European Parliament with Dr. Michael Schäfer, Managing Director of the SPD Bundestag faction, who came to the Academy accompanied by Mr. Alexander Rosenplänter, Director of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in Bishkek. Dr. Schäfer came to Kyrgyzstan to develop links for future cooperation with the Kyrgyz Parliament.

  • Alumni Travel Grant: Zalina Enikeeva '16 on integration of the Kyrgyz Republic into the EAEU

    Zalina Enikeeva, Alumna of 2016 of the MA in Economic Governance and Development Programme received the 1st Alumni Travel Grant of 2019. Zalina used this grant to participate in the XX April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development, held on April 9-12, 2019, in Moscow, National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University). The Conference’s Programme Committee was chaired by Professor Evgeny Yasin, HSE University’s Academic Supervisor.
