Biography
Dr. Rustam B. Atadjanov is an Associate Professor of Public and International Law at KIMEP University School of Law in Almaty, Kazakhstan. His teaching and research focus on public international law, international criminal law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law. He regularly teaches courses on Public International Law, Law of International Treaties, International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law, and International Humanitarian Law, and contributes to curriculum development and graduate supervision at KIMEP University.
Dr. Atadjanov holds a Dr.iur. (PhD in Law) from the University of Hamburg, Germany, where his doctoral research examined the concept of “humanness” as a protected legal interest in crimes against humanity. He also holds an LL.M. in U.S. Legal Studies with a specialization in International Human Rights Law from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and an LL.B. from Karakalpak State University in Uzbekistan.
Before entering academia, he worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Central Asia on issues related to international humanitarian law implementation and international criminal justice. Dr. Atadjanov is the author and editor of numerous publications on international law, including books and articles addressing crimes against humanity, humanitarian law, and the role of international law in Central Asia. In the MAHRS programme at the OSCE Academy, he teaches the course “Human Rights Violations as International Crimes.”
